Sound Bites: Collaborative Knowledge in Archival Audio.

The LM-3032 Cassette lubricating device

The UNESCO 2025 declaration underscores the risk to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history recorded on deteriorating ferro magnetic audiovisual material. In response, AIATSIS developed a prototype device in 2018 to clean and lubricate cassette tapes, preserving otherwise unplayable collections.  This presentation will outline the technological innovations in the development of the prototype and subsequent development of a final production level model which will be commercially available to the wider collecting community in the immediate future.

Stephen will discuss how invaluable feedback and expertise from numerous experts and practitioners shaped the development of Record Restore Premium Vinyl Record Cleaning Fluid. He will also share technical, practical, and anecdotal stories about the journey of creating this innovative solution.
